How long until every DC Comics character comes to HBO Max in some form? The latest addition to Warner Bros. streaming lineup is a live-action Wonder Twins movie, which will be written and directed by Adam Sztykiel (Rampage, Black Adam).
The Wonder Twins—aliens Jayna and Zan—might be more punchline than anything else. (I have never seen or read a Wonder Twins anything, but I’ve said “Wonder Twin powers, activate!” just like everyone else.) When Zan and Jayna say their famous catchphrase, they transform: She can become any animal, and he can become, uh… water stuff.
The twins first appeared on TV, in The All-New Super Friends Hour (pictured above), before making the jump to comics. Hailing from the planet Exxor, they also have a monkey friend, Gleek, who had a tiny cameo—sort of—in the Arrowverse’s epic “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. David Gallagher and Allison Scagliotti played the twins on an episode of Smallville, but they haven’t otherwise seen a lot of live-action action.
As The Hollywood Reporter aptly put it, “Plotlines for the project are being kept in the Hall of Justice.” The film is being produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill, a company whose credits run the gamut of teen-friendly fare, from the Twilight movies to The Maze Runner to The Hate U Give (along with the likes of Happiest Season and First Man).
No release date or casting has been so much as hinted at yet.
