Thinking about eating a live worm? This Hellbender trailer will make you reconsider that choice and will also probably give you nightmares for a week.

In case there was any doubt, Hellbender is a horror movie. It is also a movie about family, as many horror films are. In it, we focus on a teenager named Izzy who has a creepy upbringing that gets even creepier when she swallows a live worm on a dare. The trailer is, in a couple words, completely and utterly terrifying. I could barely finish watching it, but you’re most likely made of stronger stuff than me.

Here’s the synopsis for the movie:

16-year-old Izzy leads an isolated life on a lonely mountaintop. All she’s learned is from her protective mom and the wilderness that swallows them. Izzy dreams of a live gig, but her mother thinks she’s too sick and mustn’t be around others. Questioning her illness and starved for companionship, Izzy sneaks down the mountain where she befriends brazen Amber. Izzy is in heaven until a cruel drinking game with a live worm unleashes a new kind of hunger.

The movie isn’t only about family—it’s created by a family as well. This is the sixth feature by the Adams family (no, not the Addams Family): Toby Poser, John Adams, and their daughter Zelda Adams. Zelda also stars in the film as Izzy along with her mother and sister Lulu, and won the Best Actress Award at last August’s Fantasia International Film Festival.

You can watch the movie, if you so dare, on Shudder starting on February 24, 2022.
