The androids are back, and they’re still having a very bad time. Raised by Wolves, the HBO Max series from Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski and executive producer Ridley Scott, debuted in September of 2020 and was renewed not long after that. In the show’s distant future, what’s left of humanity fights a religious war while, on Kepler 22-b, two androids try to raise a gaggle of atheist human children. It doesn’t go so well.

Given Ridley Scott’s involvement, it’s no surprise that Raised by Wolves involves some weird milky fluids and inhospitably bleak landscapes. It has, shall we say, some Prometheus vibes. But season two moves from the desert and rocks for something a little greener. Here’s the summary:

In season two of Raised by Wolves, Android partners Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim), along with their brood of six human children, join a newly formed atheistic colony in Kepler 22-b’s mysterious tropical zone. But navigating this strange new society is only the start of their troubles as Mother’s “natural child” threatens to drive what little remains of the human race to extinction.

There’s a lot of screaming and many tears in this trailer, which nevertheless ends with Mother saying “What fun we’re going to have today!” If this looks like your idea of fun, you only have to wait until February 3rd for Raised by Wolves to return to HBO Max.
