The Rules of Survival Might Be a Little Different in the Final Scream Trailer

“There are certain rules to surviving,” Dewey (David Arquette) says at the start of the final Scream trailer. “Believe me, I know.”

But are the rules changing?

Dewey’s rules include “They always come back” and “The killer is a part of something in the past.” But there’s one last bit: “This one just feels different.”

It would, wouldn’t it? The latest Scream returns to Woodsboro, 25 years after the original Ghostface murders. Original Scream stars Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Marley Shelton are on hand to guide the next generation of potential murder victims when Ghostface once again starts murdering teenagers. Secrets! Jump scares! Meta-commentary on whether or not we’ve seen this movie before! Some things stay the same, and some things—this time—are pretty much guaranteed to be different. (I for one can’t wait to see how Ghostface uses the internet.)

Scream (5) also stars Melissa Barrera; Jenna Ortega (Wednesday); Jack Quaid (The Boys); Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why); and Kyle Gallner (Veronica Mars). Scream creator Kevin Williamson is a producer, but a new generation also wrote and directed: co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) and writers James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Gary Busick (Ready or NotCastle Rock).

Frighteningly, if you wish to see this Scream, you’ll have to go to a theater; it’s only in theaters starting this Friday. You can also watch a little featurette in which Campbell, Cox, and Arquette talk about their return to Woodsboro.
