Michelle Yeoh is an international treasure, absolutely perfect in everything from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to Last Christmas to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It’s about time she got to save the multiverse herself—which looks to be what’s happening in Everything Everywhere All at Once, the new film from the directing duo Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert).
Described as being about “an exhausted Chinese American woman who can’t seem to finish her taxes,” Everything Everywhere is… well, it’s about that. But it’s also about a whole lot of versions of Yeoh’s Evelyn Wang.

Daniels made their names directing music videos, then turned to feature films with 2016’s Swiss Army Man, in which Daniel Radcliffe played a farting corpse. “If you choose to see this movie, it’s quite possible you’ll have a profoundly emotional experience. It’s equally possible you’ll just be grossed out, or even horrified,” Leah Schnelbach wrote.

Instead of farting corpses, Everything Everywhere has an accountant (Jamie Lee Curtis), who sees in Evelyn’s receipts a story. “I can see where this story is going,” she says. “It does not look good.”
But the movie looks great. Something bad is happening in many universes, and Evelyn—who is able to access the skills of her many selves across those universes—may be the only one who can stop it. She can fight! She can fence! She can cook! She can dress up real fancy! She can turn into an animated character! It’s glorious! Also there are a lot of googly eyes, and at once point Evelyn wears a red sweater that reads PUNK across the back. I need that sweater.
Everything Everywhere All at Once also stars Ke Huy Quan [Ed. note: wait, KE HUY QUAN is in this? my childhood hero Ke Huy Quan shut up I’m crying now], Stephanie Hsu, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and James Hong. The film—which comes from studio A24 (The Green Knight) and counts the Russo brothers among its producers—will open the 2022 SXSW Film Festival, then arrive in theaters a few weeks later, on March 25th, 2022.
