We haven’t heard much about the film adaptation of V.E. Schwab’s Invisible Life of Addie LaRue since Schwab broke the news in October 2020. It’s over a year later, but the project is still moving forward, now with a director on board.
Variety broke the news this week that Augustine Frizzell (Euphoria, The Last Letter From Your Lover) will be directing the adaptation as well as working on the screenplay with her husband, filmmaker David Lowery (The Green Knight). Schwab was originally board to write the script, but has since stepped away. She will, however, remain involved as a producer on the project.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
Frizzell made her directing debut in 2018 with the A24 comedy, Never Goin’ Back. She also is an actor with several credits to her name including playing Mrs. Swanberg in Pete’s Dragon, a film directed by her husband, Lowery.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is about a woman who makes a Faustian bargain to live forever, only to have everyone she meets forget her as soon as she leaves their sight. She lives this way for 300 years until, one day, she meets a man who remembers her name.
Addie LaRue isn’t the only work of Schwab’s that is getting adapted for the screen. Her Shades of Magic series is getting made into a television show at Sony, her middle grade book City of Ghosts is in production to become a feature film at Searchlight, and The Archived series was in development to become a show on The CW.
No news yet on when we’ll be able to watch The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, but given Frizzell and Lowery are still working on the script, it’s likely to be some time before we’ll see (and not forget) an on-screen version of Addie (and, of course, Luc).
