Get Ready for The Wheel of Time Premiere by Listening to the Show’s Soundtrack

We sadly still have to wait a week to watch Amazon’s The Wheel of Time adaptation. The good news, however, is that we can listen to the show’s soundtrack now! Today, Milan Records released The Wheel of Time: The First Turn, an album by Grammy-winning composer Lorne Balfe that includes the key themes for characters and settings in the WoT universe.

The First Turn contains fourteen tracks with titles such as “Mashithamel (Young Love),” “Moiraine Sedai,” and “Aman Syndai (Dragon Reborn).”

Balfe shared his inspiration for the soundtrack in the statement below:

“The universe of The Wheel of Time is truly unique. Inspired by oral traditions in storytelling, each theme’s voices tell the story of the character, place, or idea in Old Tongue, a language unique to the universe of The Wheel of Time. The score to this series is a re-imagination of fantasy music, doing away with the genre’s reliance on large, traditional orchestras in favor of more modern colors while retaining the strong melodies and bold harmonies that fans can expect from such an epic. It was my honor collaborating with showrunner Rafe Judkins along with our 14th Street Music team and musicians to share The First Turn album with you.”

If fourteen tracks isn’t enough for you, don’t fret—there will be three additional soundtracks released over the course of season one, with the next one, descriptively titled Volume 1, coming out on November 19. There will also be vinyl versions of The First Turn available in 2022, and a  “spatial audio version” that promises to provide “a completely immersive listening experience with 360-degree sound and enhanced clarity” will be available later this month. Not sure exactly what that means, but hopefully it will be better than their 360-degree trailer.

The first season of The Wheel of Time premieres on Amazon Prime Video next Friday, November 19.  You can listen to The Wheel of Time: The First Turn wherever you listen to music.
