Tom Holland will be in the Spider-suit again in December, but after Spider-Man: No Way Home, he’s swinging over to a new potential franchise with Uncharted. Based on the popular video game series created by Naughty Dog, Uncharted is, well… its trailer is a little bit Indiana Jones, a little bit National Treasure, a little bit Mission: Impossible, and I’m sorry, but there’s a little tiny Cocktail scene there at the start, too.

The film’s synopsis says:

Based on one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed video game series of all time, Uncharted introduces audiences to the young street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and showcases his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.

The unlikely duo will run up against Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots) and Tati Gabrielle (whose Prudence was one of the best things about Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and perhaps get an assist from Sophia Ali (The Wilds) as Chloe Frazer.

Uncharted is a prequel to the game series, setting up the relationship between Nathan and Sully. Presumably, Sony—having hooked the eternally young Holland as the star—hopes to make a lot more of these movies. When you’re an adventurer, there are always more treasures to find, traps to stumble into, and planes to hang out of!

Uncharted is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) with screen story by Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins and screenplay by Judkins and Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Marcum and Holloway co-wrote Men in Black: International). It’s in theaters on February 18, 2022.
