Mike Flanagan has found another house to haunt for Netflix. After adapting Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor (based on Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw), he’s turning his sights to Edgar Allan Poe’s classic story, “The Fall of the House of Usher.”

Flanagan just released his latest miniseries for the streaming service, Midnight Mass, which has garnered considerable acclaim since its debut last month. According to DeadlineNetflix has given a series order for the project, which will be “based on multiple works from Edgar Allan Poe.” He’ll direct half of the eight-episode series alongside Michael Fimognari (To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You).

Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher,” (you can read the whole story here) came out in 1839, and follows the story’s narrator as he visits a friend, Roderick Usher. During the visit, he learns that Roderick and his sister have been ill, that they’re the only members of their family left, and that the house might somehow be alive.

This doesn’t appear to be a series linked to Flanagan’s The Haunting anthology series: he said last year on Twitter that that particular project was over. But it looks like he’s still interested in haunted houses, and Poe’s story makes good material for him adapt—although it sounds like there might be some other stories thrown in there for good measure. “The Cask of Amontillado,” maybe?

There’s no word on when the series will debut or who will star in it. It might be a little while: Flanagan’s next series for Netflix is The Midnight Club, based off of Christopher Pike’s novel by the same name (as well as another from the same author, The Season of Passage).
