The Umbrella Academy? Those kids are losers. It’s the Sparrow Academy’s time now—or their timeline, anyway.
At the end of season two of The Umbrella Academy, the Hargreeves siblings returned to 2019 to find their present dramatically altered: Their home was no longer their own, but the lair of the Sparrow Academy, another team of peculiar folks with special abilities. Back in January, Netflix introduced the Sparrows, one of whom we already know. Sort of.
Turns out when you mess with the past… well, everyone here knows how that goes. The events of season two did something to the timeline—something that is now spreading across social media.
In the Umbrella comics and series, October 1, 1989 is the date all these strange children were born (to women who were not previously pregnant, which is its own kind of horror story). Naturally, Sparrow-Ben felt this was an occasion to celebrate:

Sparrow Ben is a bit different than Umbrella Ben. For one thing, he’s not dead. For another, he’s kind of a jerk, as you can see above. The Sparrows seem to also have had their way with the Umbrella Academy’s Instagram page; all the images have been replaced with a placeholder image that refers to a timeline snag:
Netflix recently confirmed that The Umbrella Academy will return next year. The upcoming season will tackle the comics’ Hotel Oblivion arc, at least in some ways: In the comics, the Sparrow Academy isn’t revealed until a bit later (the series’ not-yet-released fourth volume is called Sparrow Academy), meaning things will certainly have changed from Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic vision.
