When Amazon released its television adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens back in 2019, it absolutely nailed the casting of its two main characters: David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale.

The pair are set to reprise their roles as the two characters in the upcoming sequel season of the show, but while we wait, they’ll be reprising their roles for a new edition of the book’s audiobook, coming out in November.

Written by Gaiman and Pratchett back in 1990, Good Omens is a comedic fantasy that follows the two supernatural entities as they work to prevent the end times. While on opposite sides of the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell, the pair become unlikely friends over the centuries, and have come to like Earth and its inhabitants. When the son of Satan is born (and ends up getting switched at birth), the pair have to try and prevent the prophesied apocalypse from coming.

The story has appeared in audio elsewhere over the years: there’s the previous audiobook, narrated by Martin Jarvis, and in 2015, the BBC produced a radio drama based on the book, featuring a full cast of actors, starring Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead) as Crowley and Mark Heap (Spaced, Green Wing) as Aziraphale.

According to William Morrow, the new audiobook will feature Rebecca Front as the book’s narrator, and will see the return of Tennant and Sheen as their characters. Other cast members include Katherine Kingsley (Anathema Device), Arthur Darvill (Newton Pulsifer), Peter Forbes (Shadwell), Gabrielle Glaister (Madame Tracy and Agnes Nutter), Louis Davison (Adam), Pixie Davis (Pepper), Chris Nelson (Wensleydale), Ferdinand Frisby Williams (Brian), and Adjoa Andoh, Allan Corduner, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Josh Hopkins, Lorelei King, Matt Reeves, and Lemn Sissay as various other voices. Neil Gaiman will also make an appearance, as himself.

It’s not the first time that a publisher has gone back to re-record a book’s audiobook featuring the voice from an actor from an adaptation: HarperCollins brought in Andy Serkis (who voiced Gollum in Peter Jackson’s adaptations to re-record both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

The audiobook will go on sale on November 2nd.
