If you’ve been looking for a pulpy space opera series to binge recently, the next season of Netflix’s series Another Life is about to drop its second season. The streaming service just released a first trailer for the season, which is set to debut on October 14th.

First launched in 2019, the series is set after an alien spaceship arrives on Earth, and the members of a government scientific outfit called the United States Interstellar Command try and make contact with it. They determine that it’s sent out a signal to a distant star, Pi Canis Majoris (in the Canis Major constellation), and dispatches a ship, commanded by astronaut Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff) to make the long journey into space to investigate.

[Spoilers for season one below.]

Along the way, there’s an accident, the ship falls out of contact with Earth, and they end up having to make some detours before reaching their destination by the end of the season. Meanwhile, the folks back on Earth are trying to make sense of the alien object.

In last season’s finale, the planet was destroyed by some hostile aliens known as the Achaia, and in this first look at season two, Breckinridge has to contend with some new problems as they work to return home. They need to figure out what the Achaia want and, equipped with an AI modified with some Achaian programming, they set about trying to make contact. The Achaia have taken over large parts of the galaxy, and it looks like they’re willing to let humanity join them—or get wiped out.

The first season didn’t get that much of a warm reception, but maybe things will get better this coming season? We’ll find out when the show returns on October 14th.
