Apex Magazine, the publication arm of Jason Sizemore’s Apex Book Company, took a break starting in 2019, and returned earlier this year. Sizemore’s been working to get the magazine back up to self-sustaining status, and launched a Kickstarter to help fund its return.

Now, the magazine is looking to keep the publication going: It’s launched and fully funded another year of fiction with a new Kickstarter, which you can now back.

According to the campaign page, the company set a goal of $10,000 for the coming  year (it’s since raised more than $13,000), which will fund the first three issues (#127, #128, and #129) of the year (the magazine publishes six issues a year on a bi-monthly basis), and will include fiction from Gabino Iglesias, Jennifer Marie Brissett, Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam, Samit Basu, and Lavie Tidhar.

Alongside those stories, the magazine will feature original essays, additional original fiction, cover art, podcast adaptations, and so forth.

The campaign has a bunch of tiers for backers: $5 will get you an ebook edition of issue #127, $10 will get you #127 and #128, $25 will get you a year’s subscription or five ebooks from the company’s book catalog (Disclaimer: Apex published an anthology I edited, War Stories: New Military Science Fiction, which is presumably included in that offer), $27 will get you a mug and Apex-branded tea, and higher tiers will bring about some other perks.

Should the campaign go further beyond its funding goals, there are additional stretch goals: funding for the remainder of the year ($14,000 – $22,000), a bonus issue of fiction from Asian and Pacific Islanders ($26,000), pay bumps for authors ($32,000), reprints ($34,000), essays ($35,000), and cover art ($37,000).

The Kickstarter will run through August 18th, with the first issue set to drop on January 4th, 2022.
