Cixin Liu’s The Three-Body Problem Is Now a Podcast

Cixin Liu’s The Three-Body Problem has been a massive hit for over a decade now, garnering praise from the likes of President Barack Obama and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Netflix is set to adapt the trilogy as a live-action series (from the creators of HBO’s Game of Thrones), but if you haven’t picked it up yet, there’s a new medium to consider: Tor Books and Macmillan Audio is releasing the audiobook as a podcast, and you can start listening to it now.

The podcast kicked off last week—and new episodes will be released on Tuesday and Friday of each week between now and August 6th. After that point, the podcast will be available to listen to through September 10th, 2021.

The novel helped kick off a wave of translated stories from China, including others from Liu (such as The Dark Forest, Death’s End, Ball Lightning, and collections such as To Hold Up The Sky and the forthcoming The Wandering Earth and Other Stories), as well as books from other authors like Baoshu (The Redemption of Time) and Hao Jingfang (Vagabonds).

The translated novel and podcast kicks off during the Chinese Cultural Revolution after an exiled scientist makes contact with an alien civilization, which sets off a chain of events leading up to an impending invasion. In the subsequent installments, Liu follows the consequences of that invasion on humanity and the rest of the galaxy.

If you subscribed to the Steal the Stars podcast feed, you might already have it on your phone. That feed has been retitled as Stories from Among the Stars, and will serve as an “anthology series that shares thrilling science fiction and audio stories.” Tor hasn’t said what books will come up on the feed after Three-Body Problem.
