In 2019, it was announced that Zack Snyder and Netflix were teaming up for an anime series inspired by Norse mythology. There’s been little news since there—presumably because Snyder’s been busy with other things—but Netflix just announced the voice cast for the series, and the lineup is spectacular.

Do I wish this was going to be a live-action show? I do, because seeing Paterson Joseph as Loki and Pilou Asbæk as Thor would be even more exciting. But who’s gonna complain when John Noble is voicing Odin? This just makes perfect sense. (Look at him in Return of the King up there. Same energy.)

Here’s the whole list, in a more legibly sized font. No details have been provided on the characters, so the descriptions below are extremely short and quick guesses based on the names as they appear in myths and sagas.

  • John Noble (Lord of the Rings) as Odin, the All-Father
  • Paterson Joseph (The Leftovers) as Loki, the shapeshifting trickster
  • Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) as Thor, you know, the one with the hammer
  • Kristopher Hivju (also Game of Thrones) as Andvari, a dwarf with a magic ring
  • Jamie Chung (The Gifted) as Hel, who rules the underworld (and is Loki’s daughter)
  • Rahul Kohli (iZombie) as Egill, a farmer (but the name could also apply to the legedanry Icelandic berserker)
  • Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) as Inge
  • Peter Stormare (American Gods) as Ulfr, an Icelandic skald
  • Stuart Martin (Jamestown) as Leif, presumably Erikson?
  • Sylvia Hoeks (See) as Sigrid, a queen
  • Jamie Clayton (Sense8) as The Seid-Kona, which sounds kinds of like the Norns
  • Corey Stoll (Billions) as Hrafnkel, a duelist who becomes an atheist

Based on these character names, Snyder is working with Norse myth and with Icelandic sagas. No release date has been announced.
