The CW’s Stargirl is coming back for a third year. The network announced that it was renewing the series for another season ahead of its Season 2 premiere next week.

The series got its start on DC’s standalone streaming service DC Universe back in 2018 as part of its original content offerings, and eventually debuted in 2020 on both the streaming service and on The CW. With its second season renewal, the series moved over to The CW. (DC Universe has since been shut down, with some of its original content offerings sent over to HBO Max).

In the first season, we were introduced to Courtney Whitmore (played by Brec Bassinger), a high school student who discovers that her stepfather Sylvester Pemberton (Joel McHale), was once a superhero’s sidekick, Starman. He still has his cosmic staff, and when she picks it up, she becomes a superhero herself.

The character had previously been included in the network’s larger Arrowverse—Stargirl was briefly featured in the crossover episode “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, in which we learned that she was living on a parallel Earth.

With its renewal, the series will continue to accompany the network’s Arrowverse franchise, which includes The Flash (going into season 8), Supergirl (which is in its sixth and final season), Legends of Tomorrow (going into its 7th season), Black Lightning (in its fourth and final season), Batwoman (renewed for a third season), and Superman & Lois (renewed for a second season).
