Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty has had a bit of a haphazard release schedule since it debuted: The series originally debuted in 2013, and had a couple of years-long breaks between seasons, testing the patience of its fans.
Now, the network has released a trailer for the show’s upcoming fifth season, and let us know when it’ll drop—June 20th, 2021.
The series has become a cult classic for its nihilistic sense of humor and dimension-hopping stories, and while the slow rollout of its later seasons frustrated fans, they were eventually rewarded in 2018 with some good news: Adult Swim renewed the series for a full 70 episodes—seven seasons worth.

The show’s fourth season debuted in 2019 with five episodes, and aired the rest of the season a year ago, so it looks as though the show is back on track, schedule-wise.
This latest trailer shows off what to expect in this coming season: more family bickering, unexpected adventures, a “strange, horny ocean man,” tributes to Voltron, alien invasions, the return of Mr. Poopybutthole, and quite a bit more.
The network has some plans for fans as well: It will roll out a bunch of behind-the-scenes and other special content on June 20th, which it’s calling “Rick and Morty Day.”
It’s not immediately clear how many episodes this upcoming season will have, although it sounds like work on the upcoming seasons is progressing. Earlier this month, creator Dan Harmon spoke on a panel about the new season and how the team had to adapt to working from home.
