It’s important to put that “The” in the title, to differentiate from 2016’s Suicide Squad. And the first trailer for this one does have a whole different vibe. As writer-director James Gunn revealed almost two years ago, the cast is also different, with no Deadshot, Killer Croc, Joker, or Katana. But we’ve got a whole bunch of new murderbuddies this time around! Read on to check out the red-band trailer (which is probably only red-band because King Shark rips someone in half, there’s a joke about a bag of dicks, and someone swears. Don’t get your hopes up for anything too exciting).

The important thing is that Harley Quinn is having a really good time, and in fabulous outfits. New characters include (but are certainly not limited to) Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Savant (Michael Rooker), Blackguard (Pete Davidson), The Thinker (Peter Capaldi), Ratcatcher II (Daniela Melchior), and King Shark (Sylvester Stallone). Thankfully, Viola Davis is still here to make increasingly disapproving expressions as Amanda Waller.
This trailer is about as James Gunn as a James Gunn thing can get, right down to the choice of song (Steely Dan’s “Dirty Work”), which really ups the Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-but-not feel. Plot? Are we here for plot? They have a mission. They might die doing it. It’s kind of their thing.
There are also a whole bunch of new posters for the film:
