The CW has cast Kaci Walfall to head up Ava DuVernay’s upcoming DC comics adaptation, Naomi, and will play the show’s title role, along with three costars: Cranston Johnson, Camila Moreno, and Alexander Wraith, according to Deadline.

News of the series broke late last year: DuVernay will work with Arrow writer and co-producer Jill Blankenship to adapt the comic, which was first published in 2019. The series follows Naomi McDuffie, a woman from an alternate Earth where an environmental catastrophe imbued people with superpowers. When her family is threatened by a supervillain, Naomi’s sent to Earth in our universe. The comic series begins as a supernatural event prompts Naomi to figure out her origins, and she discovers her energy-based superpowers.

Deadline reports that Walfall will play Naomi, and describes her as “an effortlessly cool and confident high school student who is the adopted daughter of doting parents.” Johnson, Moreno, and Wraith will play series regulars: Zumbado (Johnson) the owner of a car dealership with a mysterious past, Lourdes (Moreno) a comics-obsessed woman who has a crush on Naomi, and Dee (Wraith) the owner of a tattoo parlor who knows more than he lets on.

There’s no word on when the series will debut, but casting is a good sign that the series is soon to enter production.
