In October, Netflix announced an eight-episode series adaptation of V.E. Schwab’s story “Fresh Kill,” in which a teenage vampire is about to take her first victim. She chooses the new girl in town, Calliope, who—of course—isn’t quite what she seems.

And now we have our vampire and victim: Juliette, the vampire, will be played by Sarah Catherine Hook (Monsterland), and Imani Lewis (Vampires Vs. the Bronx) will play Calliope, who comes from a family of vampire slayers. As Deadline’s summary puts it, “Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for…”

“First Kill” appeared in Vampires Never Get Old: Tales With Fresh Bite, a YA anthology edited by Zoraida Córdova and Natalie C. Parker. The book was published last September, with the adaptation news coming quickly on its heels. First Kill, the series, is written by showrunner Felicia D. Henderson, whose extensive TV writing and producing credits include Empire, The Punisher, Gossip Girl, and Moesha. Henderson is also one of the show’s executive producers, along with Belletrist Productions’ Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss. Schwab is also a producer on the show, and seems excited about the casting news:

Production is expected to begin in Georgia later this year.
