NBC will debut a new science fiction series in a couple of weeks, Debris, about two agents from an international agency who begin to investigate mysterious phenomena after some mysterious wreckage begins falling to Earth.

Debuting on March 1st, the network has finally released its first full trailer, giving us a good idea of what to expect: a science fiction procedural that looks quite a bit like Fox’s Fringe.

That should come as no surprise—the series hails from J.H. Wyman, who wrote a good chunk of Fringe‘s episodes, and was the creator of another sci-fi procedural, Fox’s 2014 series Almost Human, about a police officer and his new android partner. NBC ordered a pilot for the series last year. It was able to complete that pilot episode prior to the COVID-19 lockdowns, and the network ordered the show to a series in June.

The story follows two agents: MI6 agent Finola Jones (played by Riann Steele) and CIA agent Bryan Beneventi (played by Jonathan Tucker), who are brought in to investigate some mysterious wreckage from an alien spacecraft that’s started falling to Earth, which has some strange properties. As we see in the trailer,  people who come across various pieces are found floating mid-air, sucked through buildings, or evaporated lakes. The pair have to figure out each piece as they encounter them, both to keep people safe and to keep them from falling into the wrong hands.

The series certainly looks as though it’ll have a “mysterious piece of space trash of the day” vibe—a structure that that Fringe featured, which eventually built up into a larger mythology across five seasons.

Debris will debut on NBC on March 1st, and will begin streaming on Peacock the day after.
