Reactor

Mid-2000s science fiction series The 4400 is about to come back: The CW has handed down a straight-to-series order for a reboot of the show, according to Deadline, along with pilot orders for three other shows, Naomi (a comic book adaptation from Ava DuVernay), a live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls, and a “millennial nun dramedy.”

The original series ran for four seasons on USA between 2004 and 2007. Starting in 1946, 4400 people were abducted by a mysterious flash of light from all around the world. Fast-forward to 2004, and a mysterious comet is about to strike Earth—it slows and touches down near Mount Rainier, and in a flash of light, deposits the missing people, all of whom haven’t aged a day.

The series followed a pair of investigators,  Tom Baldwin (Joel Gretsch) and Diana Skouris (Jacqueline McKenzie), as they worked to figure out what happened to the people. None of the returned could remember what happened to them and had trouble reintegrating—and some of them have come back with mysterious powers. As it turned out, they weren’t abducted by aliens, but by people from the future.

Deadline notes that “It remained a cult favorite and a title in the CBS Studios library that the studio brass had been keen on revisiting.” Work on the reboot began back in 2018 with Craig Sweeney, one of the show’s original writers, but it looks as though a new creative team is behind this effort.
