The First Casting Announcements for Netflix’s Sandman Are Here

No, they haven’t told us who will be playing all of the Endless yet, those terrible teases. But Netflix announced the first round of cast members for the upcoming Sandman adaptation, and there are some very intriguing choices in the mix.

As expected, Tom Sturridge (Sweetbitter) is playing Dream. As previously noted, he certainly has the cheekbones. Vivienne Acheampong (the recent The Witches) takes on the role of Lucienne, head librarian in the Dreaming.

Once again, we’ll get to enjoy hating Game of Thrones‘ Charles Dance: he plays Roderick Burgess, who imprisons Dream for a very long time.

Asim Chaudhry (Hitmen) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Paddington 2) are Abel and Cain. One repeatedly murders his brother; the other doesn’t stay dead.

Boyd Holbrook (Logan) is the Corinthian, an actual nightmare and a creature with way too many teeth.

And last but certainly not least, the divine Gwendoline Christie will tower over everyone as Lucifer.

It’s a good start, and some interesting choices in terms of who Netflix is telling us about. Gaiman has said that the first season of the show will cover the first two volumes of the comic, Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll’s House, and these announcements certainly line up with that statement.

Sandman has begun filming, and Gaiman is constantly dropping little hints on Twitter.  The first season is expected to be 11 episodes, but no release date has been announced.
