Solaris announced today the upcoming publication of New Suns 2, a sequel anthology to 2019’s award-winning New Suns. Like the first book, the anthology will be edited by author and editor Nisi Shawl (Everfair).

New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction By People of Color won the Locus and World Fantasy Awards for Best Anthology, and Shawl won the Brave New Worlds Award for their editing work on the book. As Solaris’s David Thomas Moore said in a press release, “New Suns was one of the most important projects Solaris has ever published, reflected in its extraordinary haul of awards. I’m delighted to have picked up the sequel, and to be working with the brilliant Nisi Shawl again.”

Shawl said, “I’m so gleefully grateful for this chance to show people more new suns burning brighter in deeper skies! Our first volume won four awards in a year—can we rocket past that, further into the beyond?”

New Suns 2 is the working title for the sequel, which will be publishing in early 2023. The first volume included work by Rebecca Roanhorse, Tobias Bucknell, E. Lily Yu, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Indrapramit Das, Darcie Little Badger, and Andrea Hairston, among other brilliant writers; there’s no word yet on who will be included in this follow-up collection, but it’s certain to be an incredible lineup.
