The Umbrella Academy Introduces Its Seven New Siblings

The second season of Netflix’s Umbrella Academy ended not only with a dramatic confrontation (naturally), but with a game-changing reveal. (That kind of thing tends to happen when you’ve been messing with the timeline, no?)

With season three set to start filming in Toronto next month, it’s time for teasers and reveals and casting news! The seven siblings from the first two seasons will all be back (well, mostly? sort of?), along with Ritu Arya’s Lila, but it’s time to meet the new class.

When the Hargreeves family returned to the present day, all was not as they expected it to be. It’s April 2, 2019, but Reginald Hargreeves is alive, the mansion is far from empty—and it isn’t their home. The painting over the mantel is of Ben, not Five. This isn’t the Umbrella Academy.

It’s the Sparrow Academy.

And now we get to meet the Sparrows: Marcus (Justin Cornwell), Ben (Justin H. Min), Fei (Britne Oldford), Alphonso (Jake Epstein), Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez), Jayme (Cazzie David), and everyone’s new favorite character, Christopher (EXISTENTIAL DREAD INDUCING PSYKRONIUM CUBE).

So we get Ben back—but not exactly. (I’m not complaining, okay? I love Ben.)

The Sparrows were introduced briefly in the third volume of the comics, Hotel Oblivion, and the not-yet-released fourth volume will be titled Sparrow Academy. It’s hard to say how closely the show will hew to the books, given that we don’t know much yet about the Sparrows, their powers, or their upbringing.

We anxiously await word on when the Sparrows and the Umbrellas will appear on our screens.
