Last month, Lucasfilm announced a ton of new Star Wars projects that it was putting into development: a bunch of new streaming shows for Disney+, as well as a Rogue Squadron movie, to be directed by Patty Jenkins.

Despite that huge news dump, there were a couple of projects that didn’t get updates, including a film by Kevin Feige. Last week, we learned that the project is still moving forward, and that Lucasfilm just tapped Loki and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron to write the script.

According to Deadline, Waldron recently signed an overall deal with Disney, which not only includes work on a second season of Loki (the first of which is set to debut in May), but also work on Feige’s feature film project. The news is the first that we’ve heard of the film since it was revealed back in 2019.

The news highlights a bit of corporate synergy at play: Feige is best-known for shepherding the Marvel franchise into box office heights, and it seems that Disney has a considerable amount of confidence in what Waldron has done with Loki and the next Doctor Strange project. Given how big the two franchises are for Disney+, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise to see the studio sharing resources and personnel.

We don’t know much about the in-the-works film: only that Feige has a “major actor” in mind for a part if and when the film is eventually made.

For the moment, Disney and Lucasfilm are focused on projects for Disney+: both studios have a number of projects in the pipeline for the next couple of years. But despite the pivot to television, there are a handful of Star Wars films in the works—there’s the aforementioned Feige and Rogue Squadron films, as well as a project by Taika Waititi, which got a brief mention at the recent Disney investor’s conference. The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson also has a film trilogy in development, although it wasn’t mentioned during the investor’s event.
