MIRA at Harlequin Trade Publishing/ HarperCollins is excited to announce two more books from beloved and adored sci-fi author Mike Chen! The first book is Vampire Weekend—a fun vampire novel written with Chen’s signature emotional and fun style—expected to publish in Winter 2023, with an as yet untitled book under contract for 2024.

Mike Chen’s upcoming books include We Could Be Heroes (Jan 2021) and Second Contact (Jan 2022). Chen was also a contributor to Star Wars: From A Certain Point Of View—The Empire Strikes Back (Del Rey).

In Vampire Weekend, a lonely—immortal—woman rediscovers family when her nephew needs her help, and she’ll have to relearn how to connect and possibly save all of vampire-kind in the process.

Editor Margot Mallinson said:

“Working on Mike’s books is an absolute joy, even when you know he’s going to make you cry. He has a brilliant skill of taking familiar tropes and making them fresh, but also intimate. Stories about vampires have always resonated deeply with readers, and currently the notion of immortality in our increasingly fast-paced, goal-oriented, hamster-wheel lifestyle is ripe for reexamination. I can’t wait!”

Author Mike Chen agrees:

“I spent the 90s quoting either Anne Rice’s vampires or obscure indie rock bands, and Vampire Weekend brings together both of these obsessions into a story about friendship and punk in our modern digital world. A huge thanks to Margot Mallinson and the Mira team for letting me jump genres yet again to fulfill this lifelong dream. If you ever needed a music-obsessed vampire who dresses like Joan Jett, names her guitars, and has a cold dead heart of gold, then I can’t wait for you to meet Louise.”

Mike Chen is a lifelong writer, from crafting fan fiction as a child to somehow getting paid for words as an adult. He has contributed to major geek websites (The Mary Sue, The Portalist, Tor.com) and covered the NHL for mainstream media outlets. A member of SFWA and Codex Writers, Mike lives in the Bay Area, where he can be found playing video games and watching Doctor Who with his wife, daughter, and rescue animals.
