Netflix Puts a Holiday Spin on The Witcher

If you’re putting out milk and cookies for Santa, make sure you leave a coin for your Witcher, too. Netflix recently put together a video about the series that has enough holiday spirit to make the Grinch’s heart grow three times as big (unless Geralt accidentally slays it as part of side quest for the citizens of Whosville).

The trailer combines some of the best footage from season one of the bloody fantasy show with iconic Christmas trappings. A group of soldiers wearing Santa hats stand ready to attack Geralt, Renfri sports a pair of reindeer antlers, and an assassin carries a giant candy cane in place of a sword. As the trailer progresses, a grumpy Geralt seems to slowly embrace the holiday spirit. All of the Christmas decorations and updates blend in seamlessly and hilariously via the wonderful magic of editing while being backed by cheery music.

It’s nice to see a major network having fun with such a dark and grim property. Hopefully, this won’t be the only Witcher-related gift that Netflix gives us this season—though it is likely. Although production for season 2 started back in the summer, we still don’t know when exactly when the next chapter of the series will drop on the streaming service.

But while we wait for more news, we can rewatch season one, check out all the behind-the-scenes content, and loop that holiday trailer until we’re sick of it. Given how entertaining it is to see Geralt among Christmas directions, that might take a while.
