What we definitely need, right now, are more things to be scared of. The streaming service Shudder is here to oblige: On Saturday, October 31st, you can spend the day with their free virtual horror con, ShudderFest. From horror icons to horror-fan musicians to horror authors, there’s a little something for everyone who feels their life needs more terror.
Starting at 12 pm Eastern time, there’s a panel, interview, or presentation every hour until 9 pm, when Shudder members can watch a double feature of Halloween and a sneak preview of an upcoming Shudder film. (Everything except this screening is open to non-Shudder members as well.)
You can browse the full schedule at Bloody Disgusting, but here are a few highlights!

The Fourth Island
- At 12 pm, Keith David hosts “Welcome to ShudderFest,” a hangout with “horror royalty” including Robert Englund and Lance Henriksen.
- At 2 pm, Evan Narcisse moderates a conversation on “The Future of Black Horror” with Victor LaValle (The Ballad of Black Tom), Tannarive Due (Horror Noire executive producer), Shannon M. Houston (Lovecraft Country writer), Rusty Cundieff (Tales from the Hood director) and Kamil Oshundara from Monkeypaw Productions.
- At 3 pm, get your fix with a “blood draining dissertation” from author and Tor.com contributor Grady Hendrix (Paperbacks From Hell).
And that’s just to start. You’re not going to a Halloween party, right? (Right???) Might as well settle in with a bag of fun-size candy and a solid internet connection. As you do.
