If you’d like to spend your lunch-break inducing some good ol’ frisson, then look no further than the beautiful final trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Clocking in at a whopping 2 minutes and 36 seconds, the clip is stuffed with gorgeous imagery (that Gelfling in a maelstrom of cherry blossoms, anyone?), ridiculously intricate world-building (there’s something that looks like the Voynich Manuscript mated with a cootie-catcher, and we NEED it) and a ton of details fleshing out the characters and plot of the series.
Based on what’s shown in the trailer, it looks like this tale of Thra, which takes place before the original movie, will have our three Gelfling heroes dealing with a mysterious Skeksis-masterminded cataclysm called The Darkening. What that means will, of course, be revealed as the series unfolds, but a smattering of clues suggest that it a.) involves the Skeksis sucking the soul out of Gelflings with the Dark Crystal to fuel their power and b.) has been documented before in their lore, although is passed off as a children’s story.
