With Legion having just wrapped up for good with Monday’s airing of the series finale, everyone wants to know what’s next for Noah Hawley—specifically, what’s up with that Doctor Doom movie that’s been on and off the table.

According to his new interview with Deadline, not much, although the film isn’t completely dead in the water.

“I mean, where it stands is now that [his debut feature Lucy in the Sky] is done and Legion is done and I’ve taken a little time off because someone told me there was this word ‘vacation,’ which means you don’t work, which sounded really interesting to me,” he told Deadline. “But you know, I need to circle back to them and announce that I would love to make it and figure out if that’s something that is possible. Whether or not they already have a plan in place for what to do with those characters or whether they’re open to my kind of vision for what to do with those characters. But it’s sort of on me right now to go push them, which I will do as soon as I come up for air.”

From that, we can deduce that the Doctor Doom movie wasn’t killed when Disney bought Fox, and that Disney still owns the rights to the characters for when/if they decide to resurrect Doom (and, possibly, the Fantastic Four). (Also that there doesn’t seem like a rush to make it, which isn’t surprising, considering how jam-packed Phase 4 is and how any Doctor Doom stuff would be pushed to Phase 5 or after.) Whether that’s ultimately with Hawley or not is still up in the air, but we do know that he has a script ready if Marvel ever takes the plunge.
