If, like us, you can’t wait for Ava DuVernay’s upcoming adaptation of Jack Kirby’s New Gods, then you’ll be pleased to know some iconic characters will definitely be showing up in the film. On Tuesday, the director did a round of #AskAva on Twitter, and she included key New Gods updates while answering fan questions.
First up, she confirmed that Darkseid and the Furies will 100% be part of the story.
How could any self-respecting Barda fan not include the The Furies?! I’m looking forward to them so much. #AskAva https://t.co/83zD6PeFBx

(In a tweet from 2017, she also revealed that Big Barda—who, by the way, is a member of the Furies—is her favorite superhero, so it’s safe to say she’ll be making an appearance as well.)
DuVernay also discussed the casting for New Gods, revealing that she doesn’t have anyone in mind yet for specific characters, but will very likely include an actor from When They See Us.
Nope. Keeping my mind open. #AskAva https://t.co/IhuvqzuvQa

In each of my narrative projects since my first film entitled I WILL FOLLOW, I bring over an actor from the last project I made. So, yes, there is a 99.9% chance this will happen again. https://t.co/BGNvouyNDJ

Finally, she revealed the New Gods script is currently in progress, and shared some kind words about collaborating with Tom King, the writer of Mister Miracle.
