After a failed attempt at a movie in 2013, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman has now apparently found a home–and a giant budget–at Netflix.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Neil Gaiman’s iconic comics series Sandman has been acquired by Netflix, in a deal that they are describing as “the most expensive TV series that DC Entertainment has ever done.” The show has been straight-to-series with showrunner Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, ABC’s The Catch, Grey’s Anatomy) attached.

While Heinberg is set to write and serve as showrunner, Gaiman will be an executive producer along with David Goyer. No other writers have yet been named, and it’s still much to early for casting news, which means it’s a perfect moment for a fan cast! Which roles do you think David Tennant and Michael Sheen should play? Should Tom Ellis just step over to the Sandman set and keep Lucifer-ing? Who is your perfect Delirium?

In terms of structure, will they keep roughly to the storyline as broken out in the trade collections? Or mix in the shorter tales from later on in the series all throughout the series? Can we expect concise episodes ala Netflix’s adaptation A Series of Unfortunate Events? Or more of a long unfolding, ala Starz’s American Gods?

And: Who’s coming around for the John Constantine cameo?

We’ll keep you updated as news crosses over through the Gates of Horn and Ivory! In the meantime, you can learn more over at The Hollywood Reporter.
