HBO Announces Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Date with a Starktastic New Teaser

As promised, HBO officially announced just when in April Game of Thrones could expect the eighth and final season of the epic fantasy series to premiere. (Thankfully, you won’t have to wait the entire month.) But what could have been just a tweet was instead a stylish and eerie trailer, the first extended look at the new season.

That’s right, Game of Thrones returns on April 14—still three months away, but at least fans now have a date to count down to.

Having Jon Snow and Sansa and Arya Stark walk through the crypts of Winterfell makes for a more thematic teaser than straight footage, but it both calls back to Ned and Catelyn Stark (RIP), while forcing the three surviving children to confront their own mortality in the coming conflict. And while it starts with a flame, where there’s fire there’s always ice…

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres Sunday, April 14 on HBO.
