James McAvoy is one lucky actor. Or at least, he’s trying to be. Which makes sense when one of your big blockbuster roles is playing a young Sir Patrick Stewart.
If you’re a Star Trek fan or a Stewart fan, chances are you’ve already heard about the upcoming Picard show, which is set to focus on the next stage of Jean-Luc Picard’s life, post-Enterprise. Recently, Stewart put up a photo on Instagram showing himself and the writing/producing crew of the show getting to work.
That was when James McAvoy thought to casually slip into Stewart’s comments, saying “Need a flashback guy????? Just sayin @sirpatstew …I’ve got previous experience and will work for autographs.”
Sure, it’s a joke referencing his work playing a young Professor Xavier in the past decade of X-Men films, but it’s also a solid idea. Who wouldn’t want to spend their acting career playing Patrick Stewart characters in flashback? Xavier, Picard, King Richard, Captain Ahab (what, he didn’t just namecheck the guy in First Contact…) various Shakespearean heroes, Gurney Halleck toting his adorable pug all over Arrakis…
This is a good career move. Go for it, McAvoy. Just…you know…stay away from the dom-jot table.
