American Gods has just added three key cast members! Mr. Town, Mr. World’s right hand man, will be played by Dean Winters, Gillian Anderson’s Media will be replaced by New Media, portrayed by Kahyun Kim, and Sam Black Crow will be played by First Nations actor Devery Jacobs.

Dean Winters should be at home in his role as Mr. World’s enforcer, since he was recently in John Wick. Kahyun Kim has appeared in Austin & Ally and The Mysteries of Laura, and Devery Jacobs has appeared in Stephen King’s Dead Zone, Being Human, and Mohawk Girls, and was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress for her performance in Rhymes for Young Ghouls in 2013. According to Deadline, Jacobs grew up in Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory, “which shaped her passion for Indigenous rights activism.”

In Season Two, it will fall to Mr. Town to find Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), and figure out just how much he knows about Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). New Media will be “a cyberspace chameleon,” using her constantly shifting appearance to manipulate those around her. (This is both a natural progression for Media and a good way to fill the hole left by Gillian Anderson leaving the show.) Finally, Sam Black Crow is a beloved character from Neil Gaiman book—she’s the one who delivers the “I can believe” speech that birthed so many tattoos in the ’00s—and her casting was truly crucial to the spirit of the show. Plus she makes chainsaw art.

As Bryan Fuller and Michael Green left the show after the first season, the new arc will be guided by Jesse Alexander, who formerly worked on Lost and Hannibal, and will hopefully finally get us to the House on the Rock? Season Two will debut on Starz in 2019.
