Peter Serafinowicz as The Tick

Amazon Studios has announced the latest incarnation of The Tick, created by god-who-writes-as-man Ben Edlund, will be getting a second season on the streaming service. Peter Serafinowicz (The Tick!) and Griffin Newman (Arthur Everest) will both return.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Mighty Blue Justice of the Tick: In a world where superheroes (and villains) are very real, accountant Arthur Everest is doing his best to investigate a conspiracy without succumbing to PTSD and depression. He believes that the world is in danger from The Terror, a supervillain long believed to be dead. When the Tick shows up in his life, the two team up to thwart evil wherever it may appear.

The Tick has appeared in comics, cartoons, and even an earlier live-action outing, but the newest iteration has quickly become my favorite by embracing real life problems, and especially delving into Arthur’s mental health challenges in an empathetic way. Plus the cast is amazing, with Serafinowicz making for a perfect Tick, and Jackie Earle Haley and Yara MArtinez creating lovely scenery-chewing villains, and that’s before we even get into the existence of Dangerboat, the sentient crimefighting boat.

This show, you guys.

Edlund expressed enthusiasm in a very Edlundy way:

I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller,” said Ben Edlund, series creator and executive producer. “We got a good ball of mud spinning with the right tilt of axis, I’m very happy we have this opportunity to keep peopling it.

The second half of Season One hits Amazon on February 23! Who do you hope to see in the future? I’m crossing my fingers for Man-Eating Cow!
