Composer Jeff Russo is responsible for the music that fans will hear in Star Trek: Discovery, including its new theme–and you can listen to it now!

After a brief introduction, a sixty-piece orchestra plays the new theme. Thankfully, no lyrics pop up anywhere (looking at you, Enterprise).

Some of the signature motifs make an appearance, but Discovery‘s theme has a definite sense of motion to it, the sort of music that seems built for exploration. It’s a pensive sort of take that bodes well for the rest of the music for the series, a bit more in keeping with Deep Space Nine‘s theme (which was less lyrical than previous Trek themes, but still excellent). Now we just need the opening visuals to go with it!
