The Disaster Artist Trailer is Full of Inside Jokes for Diehard The Room Fans

The Disaster Artist movie trailer James Franco Tommy Wiseau

You’ve seen James Franco as Tommy Wiseau intoning “oh hi, Mark” on a rooftop—now get a load of the entire cast of The Disaster Artist in the first full trailer! The film, based on Greg Sestero’s memoir about the making of cult classic The Room, follows the improbable friendship between him and Wiseau, and the latter’s impossible dream to make the next great American drama… whose hero might be a vampire.

If you know The Room only vaguely, the film promises to delve into all of the idiosyncracies of that momentous shoot, like Wiseau’s decision to construct a set of an alleyway instead of just shooting in the alleyway. But if you’re one of those superfans who attend all of the midnight screenings and already have your spoons ready for this film’s premiere in the winter, you’ll find that director Franco and co. have slipped in some incredibly meta jokes based around all of the callbacks that have grown around the film, from Wiseau aiming a little high during the sex scene to Wiseau humping a dress to… well, there are a lot of particular creative choices.

Watch the trailer for glimpses of Dave Franco as Sestero/Mark, Josh Hutcherson as Philip Haldiman/Denny, Ari Graynor as Juliette Danielle/Lisa, and more:

The Disaster Artist comes to theaters December 1 in limited release, followed by a wide release on December 8.
