Daenerys Gains a New Ally in Game of Thrones SDCC Teaser

While there weren’t major spoilers at the Game of Thrones San Diego Comic-Con panel, HBO did release a teaser for the next two episodes of season 7. “Every possible series of events is happening all at once,” Littlefinger intones to Sansa, while a major character returns to join Daenerys’ side…

Spoiler for season 7 of Game of Thrones.

Yep, it’s Melsandre, telling Daenerys that “I believe you have a role to play… as does another.”

The panel was an excuse to bring a bunch of cast members together to shoot the shit and riff on their characters without actually revealing any intel on the new season. But Hodor briefly rose from the dead as Kristian Nairn turned out to be the surprise moderator! Though he couldn’t compete with Alfie Allen’s puppy, who was the true star of the panel.

Highlights from the talk:

  • Allen described returning to Theon, after playing Reek for so long, as “definitely a challenge.” Though he also said that “he’s not necessarily returning to Theon because he’s been forever changed.”
  • Pup!
  • Is Sansa being manipulated by Littlefinger? Sophie Turner answered, “She’s been silently absorbing, learning, adapting—just as good at playing the game.”
  • Nairn wanted to know if Sansa still retains “any of her ideas about love, marriage, and being happy”? As you might have guessed, the answer is no: Not being season 1 Sansa anymore, Turner explained, she’s not looking for love. “She doesn’t see the world through rose-colored glasses anymore. She’s woke now. She’s real woke. She trusts no one, man or woman. I think that’s important when you play the game of thrones.”
  • And how about the Three-Eyed Raven, what’s his deal? According to Isaac Hempstead-Wright, he’s “one of the few remaining fragments of Westeros” that’s magical, but “his purpose hasn’t been revealed yet.”
  • When asked what laws the panel would enact on the Iron Throne:
  • Conleth Hill saw his fate, and it was bleak:
  • This moment, which was simultaneously adorable and oh god, kid, no:
  • Gwendoline Christie’s answer about what Tormund could do, beyond his creepy smile, to win Brienne’s heart: “Really, to win Brienne’s heart, it’s about a mutual respect. It’s not any sort of romance. It’s about respect and a mutual nobility.”
  • Some more lighthearted options for the end of Game of Thrones, via the ComingSoon.net liveblog:

Nairn is asking everyone if they’d like to switch things up and do a rom-con next.

Turner says that she doesn’t think she would because she’s in a “dark place”.

Christie really, really wants to do a musical.

“Can you sing?” Nairn asks.

“The jury is still out on that one aspect of doing a musical,” laughs Christie. “But they have so much technology for that these days.”

Bradley says that he played Potiphar in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT when he was young.

“I couldn’t sing then,” he says, “And I can’t sing now.”
