We’ve already glimpsed the first shot of the Han Solo standalone Star Wars film, but now production has officially begun! Lucasfilm marked the occasion by posting the first photo of the cast, with the following caption:
Han Solo – Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero. A new Star Wars Story begins.
Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller join most of the cast in the Millennium Falcon: Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Woody Harrelson (Garris Shrike) Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca). Not pictured is Westworld’s Thandie Newton, in a role that (like Clarke and Waller-Bridge) has yet to be revealed.
While Lucasfilm has revealed neither the title nor a detailed synopsis, here’s what we do know so far, via the official site:
The movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
The untitled Han Solo film will fly into theaters May 25, 2018.
