J.K. Rowling’s Old Potter Sketches Crop Up on Pottermore

Back when Rowling was writing the Harry Potter series, she drew sketches of some of the characters as part of her notes. Lately, several of these sketches have made their appearance on Pottermore, giving more fans access to Rowling’s earlier process writing the books.

It’s fun to look in on Rowling’s original conception for the characters. The illustration above can be seen here with the original caption intact—revealing that Dean Thomas was initially going to be present during the “Midnight Duel” chapter, and that his name was “Gary” at that point in time.
