EW has revealed the first shot of the new Pennywise the Clown! A new adaptation of Stephen King’s horror opus IT has been in the works for a while now, but this is the first official shot we’ve seen of the terrifying clown monster. The film, directed by Andy Muschietti, is going to be released in two parts. Pennywise was played by Tim Curry in the 1990 TV adaptation of King’s novel, but this time Bill Skarsgard is stepping into his big floppy blood-drenched shoes. Skarsgard is excited about the role, saying:
“It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates…. It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look.”
For those who haven’t read the book, IT hops through time, telling the story of a group of children who band together to fight evil, first as 11-year-olds, later as thirtysomethings, and like all King stories it deals with class issues, abuse, race, and the nature of evil… but seriously it’s mostly about this terrifying freaking clown. If you want to see the full shot, and allow it into your mind so it can haunt your dreams, by all means click through.
OK, so, you’re ready?

We’ll just be in a corner curled up and screaming forever now thank you. The first part of this new two-part IT will premiere September 8th, 2017, and if we’ve recovered sufficiently we’ll keep you updated on it!
