Earlier this week, it was announced that the producers of Supergirl would finally show the Man of Steel in the flesh—and now they’ve cast their Clark Kent! TV Line reports that Tyler Hoechlin will be donning the iconic red cape and/or equally iconic glasses, depending on how he’ll appear in the first two episodes of Supergirl‘s second season.
Hoechlin is best known as alpha werewolf Derek Hale on MTV’s Teen Wolf, and will appear in a minor role in the two Fifty Shades of Grey sequels in 2017 and 2018. Supergirl showrunner Andrew Kreisberg shared his excitement over the casting:
[Executive producer] Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.
What do you want to bet we’ll see Clark in a scene with Kara’s dad (his uncle, sort of) Jeremiah Danvers, played by former TV Superman Dean Cain? Supergirl does love to wink at its audience, including casting former Supergirls Helen Slater (from the 1984 movie) as Eliza Danvers and Laura Vandervoort (from Smallville) as season 1 villain Indigo.
We’re too far off for a premiere date, but Supergirl will remain in the same timeslot as when it was on CBS: Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
