Okay, here we go.

The Dark Tower series follows the hero Roland, who is supposed to stop the Crimson King from destroying, well, reality itself. No pressure. In order to do this Roland needs to make it to the Dark Tower, climb to the top, and blow the Horn of Eld. Unfortunately, Roland doesn’t have the horn, but he gets to the Tower and climbs up anyway, only to find himself immediately sucked back all the way to the beginning the story. He doesn’t remember anything, but he now suddenly, inexplicably, has the horn. The series ends there, with the implication that his next repetition of his quest will finally be the last one.

This… annoyed some readers.

And this exposition leads us to King’s spoileriffic tweet:

Does this mean that this version of The Dark Tower isn’t actually an adaptation, but a sequel? It’s a clever, clever twist, allowing King and the filmmakers to adapt the movie to their liking without invalidating the book series itself.

Are we getting the most ideal version of Roland’s quest? We’ll find out when it premieres next February.
