Serialization: From Charles Dickens to Star Wars

Vlogger Evan Puschak explores pop culture under the name Nerdwriter—in his latest video, he takes viewers on a fascinating journey from Charles Dickens to George Lucas. Puschak discusses Dickens’ pioneering use of serialization with The Pickwick Papers, and explains how he essentially created a new genre of storytelling which dominated the publishing industry for decades and went on to influence early films, comics, and soap operas. And in the midst of this tradition is Star Wars, which helped reintroduce serialization to Hollywood, and continues to expand and reinvent the format today.
