This Halloween, Ithaca’s Press Bay Alley will “dress up” as the most beloved of fantasy streets, Diagon Alley! From 1-6 p.m. EST on Saturday, October 31, the New York town is celebrating the family-friendly Wizarding Weekend, with food and events inspired by the Harry Potter series.
Now, the organizers are quick to clarify that “this event is focusing on the spirit of the series, not the decorations” and that they’re not building actual facades. Bummer for diehard fans who can’t make it out to the Wizarding World in Orlando, but it certainly makes sense from a copyright standpoint. And in the spirit of the series, kids and adults—all encouraged to dress up as witches and wizards—will get to join in on Potter-inspired events including circus demonstrations, craft time, and “electric broomstick reenactments” (hosted by the local electric bike workshop). Kids of all ages are invited to trick-or-treat at local businesses like the Bramble herb and spice store, and makerspace Ithaca Generator.
And butterbeer, right? There has to be butterbeer. Check out the full schedule on the event’s Facebook page!
