20th Century Fox has released the final trailer for The Martian, ahead of its October 1 release. This one doesn’t differ too much from the ones that have come before, which we take to be a good thing: Hopefully this means the studio is saving all of the good little jokes and moments of humanity, which seem to characterize Mark Watney’s (Matt Damon) struggle to survive on Mars, for the theatrical release.
And really, do you need another excuse to watch this footage scored to “All Along the Watchtower” again? We do see a few new bits: The moment when the rest of the Hermes crew really does believe Watney dead before they leave the surface of the planet, and Donald Glover’s NASA character saying he knows how to get Watney back. It will be interesting to see the push-and-pull between NASA on Earth and one man on Mars as each tries to get to the other.
The Martian opened at the Toronto International Film Festival a few days ago; both the film and director Ridley Scott have been receiving favorable reviews, which is especially encouraging after the disappointment of Prometheus. Watch the trailer:
