Reactor

Thirty-two new fantasies bring their dungeons and dragons to the masses in September, even a few for adult readers. Look for new series releases, including the last Discworld novel from the late Sir Terry Pratchett, plus new additions from Erin Hunter (Warriors: Dawn of the Clans); Sarah J. Maas (Throne of Glass); S.M. Stirling (Emberverse); J.D. Oswald (The Ballad of Sir Benfro); Angus Watson (Iron Age); and Erin Lindsey (Bloodbound).

WEEK ONE

Dragon HeartCecelia Holland (September 1, Tor)

Where the Cape of the Winds juts into the endless sea, there is Castle Ocean, and therein dwells the royal family that has ruled it from time immemorial. Hunter (Hunter #1)Mercedes Lackey (September 1, Disney-Hyperion)

Young Adult. Long ago, the barriers between our world and the Otherworld were ripped open, and it’s taken centuries to bring back civilization in the wake of the catastrophe. The luckiest Cits live in enclosed communities. To Joyeaux Charmand, who has been a Hunter since she was a child, every Cit without magic deserves protection. She is called to Apex City, where the best Hunters are kept to protect the most important people. Joy soon realizes that the city’s powerful leaders care more about luring Cits into a false sense of security than protecting them. The Cits have no sense of how much danger they’re in. To them, Joy and her corp of fellow Hunters are just action stars they watch on TV. When an act of sabotage against Joy takes an unbearable toll, Joy uncovers a terrifying conspiracy in the city. There is something much worse than the usual monsters infiltrating Apex. And it may be too late to stop them.

Lady of Magick (Noctis Magicae #2)Sylvia Izzo Hunter (September 1, Ace)

Undermajordomo MinorPatrick deWitt (September 15, Ecco)

Somehow Queen Lowa must repel the invasion, although her best general is dead and her young druid powerless. She faces impossible odds, but when the alternative is death or slavery, a warrior queen will do whatever it takes to save her people.

The Bloodforged (Bloodbound #2)Erin Lindsey (September 29, Ace)

When the war began, Lady Alix Black played a minor role, scouting at the edge of the king’s retinue in relative anonymity. Though she’s once again facing an attacking Oridian force determined to destroy all she holds dear, she is now bodyguard to the king and wife to the prince. Still, she is unprepared for what the revival of the war will mean. Erik is willing to take drastic measures to defend his domain, even if it means sending Prince Liam into a deadly web of intrigue and traveling into the perilous wild lands of Harram himself. Only the biggest threat to the kingdom might be one that neither Alix nor Erik could have imagined, or prepared for.
