David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy 2015 winners

The David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy winners have been announced! On August 8, at London’s Nine Worlds Geekfest, awards were given out for Best Novel, Best Debut Novel, and Best Cover Art. The award, established in memory of David Gemmell and first awarded in 2009, honors fantasy novels that adhere to the “heroic” or “epic” subgenre that Gemmell himself worked in.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees! Winners for each category appear in bold.

 

Legend Award for Best Novel

  • Winner: Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (Gollancz)
  • Half a King by Joe Abercrombie (HarperCollins UK)
  • Valour by John Gwynne (Tor UK)
  • Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence (HarperCollins UK)
  • The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks (Orbit)

 

Morningstar Award for Best Debut Novel

  • Winner: The Emperor’s Blades by Brian Staveley (Tor UK)
  • Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien de Castell (Jo Fletcher)
  • The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley (Angry Robot)
  • The Godless by Ben Peek (Tor UK)

Ravenheart Award for Best Cover Art
